Is this the same certification as Bett & Bike in Germany?
Yes. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, networks of service providers catering to cyclists and cycle tourists have been created. We have been in contact with these partners and we are negotiating the implementation of a common European-wide information system for cycle tourism which would include such certification.
How do I get to know about these businesses catering to cyclists and cycle tourists in the Czech Republic?
An updated list will be available online here. Major tourist maps, guidebooks, catalogues of tourist services and other internet portals will contain this information.
Who is behind it?
The Cyclists Welcome project is being implemented by the Czech Environmental Partnership Foundation (Nadace Partnerství), a member of the consortium The Environmental Partnership for Sustainable Development, through its assistance program Greenways. The Greenways program is responsible for the development of major long-distance itineraries such as the Prague-Vienna Greenways, Krakow-Moravia-Vienna Greenways and Moravian Wine Trails. A consultation group has been established under this project as a platform for gathering and discussing various issues by interest groups, professional associations, the business community and representatives of state agencies. These are the current representatives of this group.
Who does the certification work?
Nadace Partnerství has trained and accredited for implementation of this certification more than 50 evaluators-certifiers in all regions of the Czech Republic. Once an establishment has fulfilled the criteria, a certification agreement is signed which will be displayed together with a flag depicting a smiling bicycle in a visible place at the main entrance.
